Descending to the limit: What is DownHill?

At Bewatt, we are passionate about manufacturing electric bikes designed for the most demanding and exciting forms of mountain biking.

Today we want to talk about two of the most popular disciplines: DownHill (DH) and Enduro. Although both share a love for adrenaline and technical terrain, each has its own essence and unique challenges.

What is DownHill (DH)?

DownHill is the quintessential downhill discipline. As its name suggests, it involves going down mountains at full speed, facing technical terrain, jumps, roots, rocks and tight turns. In this discipline, time is what counts: the goal is to complete the course in the shortest time possible.

DownHill bikes are specifically designed for this type of extreme challenges. They are characterized by:

1. Long-travel suspension (200 mm or more) to absorb large impacts.

2. Reinforced frames to withstand the pressure of fast descents.

3. Aggressive geometry that offers stability at high speeds.

4. Strong wheels, usually with soft compound tires to maximize grip.

In this modality, pedaling takes a backseat, since the routes are mostly downhill and are accessed by ski lifts or cable cars.

What is Enduro?

Enduro, on the other hand, combines the best of climbing and descent. It is a more versatile modality, where riders must face uphill and downhill sections, with a competitive focus on timed sections, which are usually technical descents. The links between stages are not timed, but do require significant physical effort as riders must make their own way to the start of each stage.

Enduro bikes are designed to balance climbing and descent performance, and typically feature:

1. Medium-long travel suspension (150-170mm).

2. Lighter frames for better climbing performance.

3. More balanced geometry, ideal for varied terrain.

4. Versatile components, such as dropper posts for easier climbing.

DH vs. Enduro on E-Bikes

E-bikes have revolutionized both disciplines, offering new possibilities for professionals and amateurs alike. In DownHill, e-bikes allow for more repeatable descents by making it easier to reach the top without the need for ski lifts. In Enduro, the electric motor helps riders tackle climbs more easily, allowing them to reserve energy for technical descents.

At Bewatt, we manufacture electric bikes that meet the demands of both modalities. Our models are designed to provide maximum performance, whether you're tackling dizzying descents or exploring endless trails. In addition, we work with high-quality materials and advanced technology to ensure an unrivalled driving experience.

Which modality is right for you?

If you love speed, pure adrenaline and technical downhill challenges, DownHill is for you. But if you prefer a more complete experience that combines physical effort, exploration and downhill skills, Enduro will be your best choice.

Whatever your passion, at Bewatt we are here to accompany you on every adventure with electric bicycles designed and manufactured in Spain.
